How to Set Up WireGuard on Windows, Android, and iOS

What you'll need

Setting up WireGuard only takes three things:

1. The free WireGuard app for your device.
2. Your personal configuration file (.conf) — this is usually delivered by email right after you subscribe to a WireGuard VPN service.
3. A stable internet connection (any network works).

Think of the .conf file as your private key: it contains your unique encryption keys and the server address. Don't share it with anyone.

Windows setup

1. Install WireGuard from the official website or Microsoft Store.
2. Launch the app.
3. Click Import Tunnel(s) from File…
4. Select your .conf file (from your email or the backup link).
5. Click Activate next to the new tunnel.
6. Done — a key/lock icon in the system tray means the VPN is active ✅.

Android setup

1. Install WireGuard from Google Play.
2. Download your .conf file to the device (from email or backup link).
3. Open WireGuard and tap the + button in the bottom-right corner.
4. Choose Import from file or archive.
5. Pick the .conf file.
6. Tap the toggle to Connect.
7. The notification "WireGuard is running" confirms the VPN is active ✅.

iPhone/iPad setup

1. Install WireGuard from the App Store.
2. Save your .conf file into the iPhone's Files app ("Open in Files").
3. Open WireGuard and tap +.
4. Choose Add from Cloud or Create from file.
5. Navigate to the file in the Files app and select it.
6. Tap the toggle to Connect.
7. A VPN icon appears in the status bar when connected ✅.

Troubleshooting

• Can't find the .conf file when importing? Make sure it ends with .conf and is stored somewhere the Files/storage app can reach.
• Connection times out? Check your internet, then toggle the VPN off and on. Ensure outbound UDP 51820 isn't blocked by a firewall.
• Connected but no internet? Switch the DNS servers in the WireGuard app to 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8, then reconnect.
• Renewed but no new email? Check spam first; the download link also works after renewal.
